DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - As training camps (hopefully) kick off later this month, the Cowboys are excited to see Blake Jarwin get his opportunity to shine as the team's No. 1 tight end following the departure of Jason Witten to the Las Vegas Raiders.
So, the news of the Cowboys interest in another tight end over the holiday weekend was ... interesting. But, as suspected, it was just another agent trying to drum up interest in their client.
The report from the Cleveland Plain Dealer had the Cowboys being among the teams who could have an interest in Browns tight end David Njoku, whom wants out, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus. But when 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher went searching for answers from the Cowboys he was met with not one but two denials.
"That,'' one source told Fish as the Friday news broke, "sounds like an agent creation.''
Added a second source: "Nope. No interest.''
The 23-year-old former first round pick is scheduled to make $2.6 million in 2020 and a little over $6 million in 2021, a very comfortable price for a talented player. The Cowboys, however, invested in Jarwin this offseason when they rewarded him with a three-year extension worth up to $24.25 million and $9.25 million guarenteed. Combine that with the fact that they signed former Oklahoma Sooner Blake Bell this offseason to back up Jarwin, and you can easily come to the conclusion that Njoku and the Cowboys aren't a fit.
