Cowboys 'Optimistic' A Deal Gets Done With Dak Prescott At Training Camp

By Josh Clark and Mike Fisher

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys are less than a day away from arriving in Oxnard, Calif. and they've still only signed one of several key players eligible for a new deal to a contract extension.

The Cowboys locked up pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence early in the offseason, but the money train stopped there before it could make its way to Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper and Ezekiel Elliott.

But will the train start back up in training camp?

A source informed on #Dak talks also tells me the #Cowboys are optimistic a deal gets done at training camp

105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher agrees with Jane Slater of NFL.com's report that the Cowboys are 'optimistic' a deal gets done at camp. Additionally, Fish says that several Cowboys fans, and media members, might be surprised at the reasonable threshold that will get the deal done with Prescott.

I'm w @SlaterNFL here - and more: I don't believe the Dak 'gotta-have' APY threshold from #Cowboys is as high as some critics fear. - @1053thefan https://t.co/xHXOBC0Q5H

"We're gonna take our future and bet it on Dak,'' owner Jerry Jones in an exclusive interview to 105.3 The Fan back in May.

The Cowboys have been very open about their plans for making the Prescott the highest-paid player in team history, which obviously means more than $65 million guaranteed given to Lawrence. The idea that the annual number -- with a long-term contract that includes "escape hatches'' -- will be in the range of $30 million is hardly a secret, either.
