DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Amid massive staff turnover, the Dallas Cowboys have elected to part ways with quarterbacks coach Jon Kitna, who joined the staff last offseason.

Kitna's departure was first reported by ESPN's Ed Werder.

Mike McCarthy is not retaining QB coach Jon Kitna, who contributed to Dak Prescott’s development as an NFL passer. Prescott finished one yard from Tony Romo’s single-season passing record. It appears only Kellen Moore and Doug Nussmeir are candidates to return to offensive staff.

Kitna was an integral part of Dak Prescott's develpment this season, helping Prescott to finish with one of the most productive seasons by a Cowboys quarterback in history.

Prescott ended the year a single yard shy of Tony Romo's single-season passing record, throwing for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns while completing 65.1-percent of his passes with a 99.7 quarterback rating.

Kitna also worked closely alongside Kellen Moore in the game planning phase of the offense, helping the Cowboys finish with the second-most productive offense in the NFL this past season.

There is as of yet no word on who will take over Kitna's position as quarterback's coach, though Doug Nussmeier, who spent the first 16 years of his coaching career as a quarterbacks coach before joining the Cowboys to coach tight ends in 2018, could be a logical option.
