DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys are releasing wide receiver Allen Hurns, according to 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher.

ESPN's Adam Schefter originally reported the news about Hurns' release earlier this morning.

Per Schefter, the Cowboys wanted Hurns back at a lower price, but he wanted to test the market. Dallas picked up Hurns $4 million option for next season back in March.

By cutting Hurns, the Cowboys will save $5 million and have plenty of receivers on the roster including Amari Cooper, Randall Cobb, Michael Gallup, Tavon Austin and Noah Brown.

Jalen Guyton, Cedrick Wilson, Devin Smith, Lance Lenoir Jr., Jon'Vea Johnson, and Reggie Davis make up the rest of the receivers on the Cowboys roster heading into camp this week.

Hurns' season ended after he suffered a gruesome ankle injury in the wild-card win over Seattle. He quickly underwent surgery and told the NFL Network in an interview shortly after the game that he'll "be good to go to start the 2019 season."

The Cowboys signed the 27-year-old to a two-year deal worth $12 million last spring after he was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hurns had 21 catches for 309 yards with two touchdowns in 2018.
