Cowboys: Tight End Will Be A Priority This Offseason

Blake Jarwin

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys enter the offseason with several roster decisions to make, including what to do at tight end.

According to COO Stephen Jones, they'll look to upgrade the position in the draft.

"I think we got some good young players. I think Blake Jarwin, in particular, probably has the most upside. Is he ready right this second ... probably not," Jones said on his weekly radio show with Ben and Skin on 105.3 The Fan. "I think tight end is very important. In terms of one of our top needs and what we'll be looking at in the draft and looking for ways to make that a stronger spot. It feels like we don't have that quote on quote Jason Witten, Jay Novachek, number one tight end."

In addition to Jarwin, Dalton Schultz and Rico Gathers are the other tight ends under contract for 2019. Geoff Swaim is a free agent.

The tight ends combined for 68 catches, 710 yards and four touchdowns in 2018. In his final season with Dallas in 2017, Witten had 63 catches for 560 yards and five touchdowns.

Dallas traded away their first-round pick to the Oakland Raiders to acquire wide receiver, Amari Cooper. Their first selection will take place in the second-round (58th overall).
