Cowboys Want Dak Prescott Happy, Surrounded By Great Players

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Most of the Cowboys entire offseason has centered around the contract status of franchise quarterback Dak Prescott.

The spotlight shifted to the draft for a couple weeks, but now that it's over, it didn't take long for it to re-focus on Prescott.

It's unknown but assumed that Prescott isn't currently participating in the team's virtual offseason program as he awaits a new deal. The Cowboys have said all along that their plan is to get something done with him but that it has to be at a number that benefits the entire team.

Cowboys COO Stephen Jones reiterated that stance, once again, during an appearance on ESPN.

"The bigger these deals get — Jerry and I have always found that to be the case in business — the bigger the dollars get, the harder they get. We believe in our track record of getting players signed," Jones said, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com. "I totally believe we'll get Dak signed at the right number that's good for Dak, good for the Cowboys, good for the team . . . So we're all motivated, we're all motivated to win. We certainly want Dak to be happy, but we also want to surround him with great football players."

The Cowboys certainly have great players around Prescott after locking up Ezekiel Elliott Amari Cooper, Zack Martin and others in the past couple years. Throw in Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb, a couple talented receivers on rookie contracts, and you have exactly what you need for a young quarterback. But money dries up quickly with a salary cap, and the Cowboys know it. Which makes this a very important negotiation for now and in the future.
