Dak Prescott & Cowboys Still "A Long Way Apart" On Extension

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - After the Dallas Cowboys came to an extension with Ezekiel Elliott on Wednesday morning, attention quickly turned to Dak Prescott and his next deal.
Things have been rather quiet since it was reported (and then denied) that Prescott and his representation were seeking $40 million annually and 105.3 The Fan's Ben Rogers has an idea why.
"What I was told yesterday is that Dak (his representation CAA) and the Cowboys are still miles apart. That they're not close," Rogers said on 105.3 The Fan. He echoed those sentiments on Twitter, saying the two were "still a long way apart" on a new deal.

Hearing Dak & Cowboys still a long way apart on his extension. CAA doesn’t do team friendly deals. Their agents ride Clydesdales to work & eat hammers for breakfast. Obviously these things can change very quickly, but it certainly doesn’t sound like a deal is close at this point

Rogers addressed the conflicting reports about what the team offered and didn't offer Prescott last month by saying Wednesday morning that CAA did, in fact, ask for $40 million per year.

Things got even more interesting Tuesday when the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff agreed to a four-year deal worth $134 million, and a record $110 million guaranteed. The contract, valued at $33.5 million annually, bested Carson Wentz's four-year, $128 million deal, with $107 million guaranteed.

So, what's next for Dak?

"If you have these two deals, you've got Wentz, you've got Goff, and the structure's there, why are they so far apart? Why is this even complicated," Rogers questioned.

When asking 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher his thoughts on where he sees things with Dak Prescott's contract, Fish said, "I think that Dak all along has thought that $30 million is the threshold of honor for the quarterback. Did he ever ask for 40? I don't know.

"I wonder if he didn't ask for 36, and now look at the middle point of the 30-36, and look at how it mirrors where Jared Goff's (contract) is. I think we're going to discover that they can get close and in the range. I think all parties would like to do that sooner rather than later. I wouldn't be surprised if right around the corner we see a Dak deal, or a Byron Jones deal, or a Maliek Collins deal, and obviously, eventually, there's going to be an Amari Cooper deal, too."
