DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - The Cowboys are officially sticking with Brett Maher, head coach Jason Garrett told Shan and RJ Monday morning on 105.3 The Fan.
With the Cowboys on a short week and a lack of options on the market, they believe Maher is the best option for this week in Chicago.
The Cowboys made some waves Sunday when they brought in three relatively unknown kickers for a workout at The Star. Dallas Renegades (XFL) kicker Austin MacGinnis, former Texas kicker Nick Rose and former University of Washington (college) kicker Tristan Vizcaino were the three kickers Dallas brought in.
Despite the workouts, Garrett says they're moving forward with Maher.
"Brett's missed some makeable kicks. He'd be the first one to tell you that he needs to make those kicks, and so you have to see what's out there. We bring different position players in all the time to work out and to see kind of where we are," Garrett said. "So we wanted to bring those three guys in. They did a nice job for us but Brett's going to be out kicker going forward."
Maher is 19-28 this season on field goal attempts. Maher didn't convert on either field goal attempt (one blocked) in the Cowboys Thanksgiving loss to the Buffalo Bills.
