DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - ESPN analyst and Cowboys villain Dan Orlovsky joined Shan and RJ on 105.3 The Fan Wednesday to discuss his thoughts on Dak Prescott, the Cowboys and more.
Orlovsky has been highly critical of the Cowboys ever since he joined the network. Just last month, he said Carson Wentz has proven he can carry a team more than Prescott, and that Prescott doesn't deserve a hire salary than the Eagles quarterback.
Orlovsky doubled down on those comments recently by including Wentz and not Prescott in his Top-5 quarterbacks list.

So why all the hate for Dak?

"First of all, I think Dak is a good quarterback. I will challenge anybody to find me saying something other than Dak is good," he said on Shan and RJ. "Do I believe Dak Prescott is a great quarterback? No. I think Carson Wentz is a better quarterback. Do I think he's better than Kirk Cousins ... Derek Carr? Yeah," Orlovsky said emphatically.

He then went on to explain that he likely wouldn't have included Wentz in his Top-5 quarterbacks but did so for television purposes.

"It's just because those two fan bases hate each other so much and those guys were drafted the same year that it causes all this emotional build-up. Now, when ESPN asked me to make this list, I get through numbers one through four and I get to five ... I said listen guys I can put (Drew) Brees or DeShaun (Watson) at five, (Aaron) Rodgers ... and Dom (ESPN analyst Domonique Foxworth) asked me to put Wentz at five. If he asked me to put Phillip Rivers at five, I wouldn't have. But I can make the case in my mind that Carson Wentz would be at five. So he said, 'listen, you put him at five, I want to argue Dak at five.'

"It was a little bit of a TV thing, absolutely, And part of that is the entertainment aspect of things. So, I said cool, let's have some fun with it.'

"I believe that Dak Prescott is a good quarterback," Orlovsky continued. "To be honest with you, if I didn't. It would be inarguable. He's prooven that he is a good quarterback. But, is he, in my opinion, a star quarterback? No. Is he, in my opinion, a quarterback who can overcome and elevate when he doesn't have a Top-5 run game, a No. 1 receiver or a Top-10 defense? I don't think he's proven that. No."

Orlovsky spent 12 seasons in the NFL, mostly as a backup quarterback. But he does give offer some quality analysis of the position, which is a big reason why ESPN hired him. He was then asked if Prescott was capped in his growth or if there is a way for him to jump Wentz on his quarterback pecking order with improved play? Orlovsky then took that opportunity to critcize Wentz for his injury history.

"Some things can definitely change. I will, at some point in the next three or four months, say, 'Carson Wentz, listen man. What you do in the regular season doesn't matter anymore. It doesn't.' The very real thing of the health going into the playoffs ... he's got to prove that. That is a very fair thing.

"Here's my thing with Dak Prescott, I had said last year going into the season, 'listen, Dak has been a good player with a subpar coaching staff. Let's see what he does with an elevated play-caller.' And he played better last year, he had a really good season last year. Two weeks ago, I said Dak Prescott will have a Top-5 season coming this year when it comes to stats."
