Colts quarterback Andrew Luck heard boos as he walked away from the field, then walked to the podium and made the surprise decision official,  announcing his retirement from football Saturday night.

"I'm in pain, I'm still in pain. It's been four years of this pain, rehab cycle," Luck said. "It's a myriad of issues, calf strain, posterior ankle impingement, high ankle sprain. Part of my journey going forward will be figuring out how to feel better."

Luck wasn't planning to make the announcement following Saturday's 27-17 loss to the Chicago Bears. But when ESPN first reported the news during the fourth quarter, Luck changed the plan for a Sunday afternoon announcement.

But when Fox Sports 1 commentator Doug Gottlieb said on twitter that Luck was retiring from the NFL because rehabbing was "too hard", it caught the attention of a famous Dallas Cowboy QB who jumped to defend Luck's decision.

Retiring cause rehabbing is “too hard” is the most millennial thing ever #AndrewLuck

"That’s total bullshit Doug" said former Dallas Cowboys QB Troy Aikman on twitter. "What qualifies you to decide how someone should live their life? So you’re now the authority on what motivates Andrew Luck? And if his decisions don’t fit into what you think is best for him then you rip him?"

That’s total bullshit Doug. What qualifies you to decide how someone should live their life? So you’re now the authority on what motivates Andrew Luck? And if his decisions don’t fit into what you think is best for him then you rip him? Guess that keeps you employed on FS1. Nice https://t.co/p59DsmPoER
