DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Amid a season of disappointment and controversy, the Jacksonville Jaguars fired Executive Vice President of Football Operations, Tom Coughlin, effective immediately.

The firing was first reported by Tom Peliserro of NFL Network.

The #Jaguars have just fired Tom Coughlin, I'm told.

The Jaguars, who sit at 5-9 on the season after a 5-11 campaign in 2018, have fallen out of the top tier of the AFC under Coughlin's watch over the last two years, following a trip to the AFC Championship game in 2017.

The previous two seasons have been marred in controversy including the Jalen Ramsey ordeal, a grievance filed by starting running back Leonard Fournette against Coughlin himself, and a multi-million dollar bust of a free agent signing in Nick Foles that has hurt their financial flexibility.

The result has been a disconnect between the Jacksonville players and Coughlin, to such a degree that it had apparently caused irreparable harm in their working relationships.

In fact, according to a report from USA Today, 25-percent of all player filed grievances were filed against Coughlin and the Jaguar's front office.

With three games left to go in the season, and their future uncertain in multiple respects, the Jaguars are now back to the drawing board just two years after being seen as one of the bright young cornerstone teams of the NFL.

Jacksonville returns to the field this Sunday when they travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons.
