Fans were clamoring for them to do something, anything, to get them excited about coming to watch the club in their shiny new ballpark next season.
We heard names like Nolan Arenado and Kris Bryant, but then, Jon Daniels and his staff went out and got someone that wasn't even on our radar, a two-time AL Cy Young award winner in Corey Kluber.
Kluber joins a Rangers rotation that already includes 2018 15-game winners in Mike Minor and Lance Lynn, along with the additions of Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles, forming one of the best rotations in the American League.
Now, about that offense.
Daniels was asked what the next step is for the club after missing out on Anthony Rendon and dealing outfielders Nomar Mazara and Delino Deshields?
"There's a lot of different ways to do it. ... We're still looking at third base both through trade and free agency. ... We need to add offense, overall," Daniels said on MLB Network Monday morning.
The trade for Kluber surprised many after Daniels told the media last week that it didn't make sense for the club to acquire a player with a year or two of control, leading to speculation that they wouldn't be players for someone like Arenado and Bryant.
So, are they suddenly back in on those players? Did Daniels have a change of heart over the weekend? Or, did the fact that acquiring Kluber without sacrificing top prospects to get him, factor in? I'm going to lean in this direction.
Daniels was asked at the end of his appearance with MLB Network about Castellanos and free agent outfielder Marcell Ozuna, but he wouldn't bite.
It remains to be seen what this club has up its sleeve. But, what we do know, is that Daniels always has a knack for making big moves. Stay tuned.
