ATLANTA (105.3 The Fan) - Luka Doncic missed out on making the all-star team despite a spectacular start to his rookie season.

The NBA All-Star reserves were announced on Thursday and the rookie was not on the roster.

Doncic was beaten out by Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl Anthony-Towns, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, New Orleans Pelicans Center Anthony Davis, and San Antonio Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge.

Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook, Portland Trailblazers guard Damian Lillard and Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson make up the rest of the Western Conference reserves.

Doncic missed out on being named as a starter despite having the second-most votes in the Western Conference.

Fan voting accounted for 50 percent of the vote to determine the 10 starters for the game, scheduled for Feb. 17 in Charlotte. The other half of the voting came from current players at 25 percent and a panel of media members make up the other 25 percent. The coaches selected the reserves.

The Slovenian teenager will, however, get his chance to be in the spotlight when he competes in the Skills Competition at NBA All-Star Saturday Night. He'll also have a new teammate to cheer him on as Dallas acquired New York Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis in a blockbuster trade Thursday.

Doncic is averaging 20.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game while shooting 43.3% from the field.
