DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks have always employed one of the most internationally diverse teams in the NBA. So it only makes sense that the league would select them to compete in a game in Mexico next season.

We are thrilled to be one of the teams that plays internationally again this season," said Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle. "It is an honor to come back to Mexico City and showcase our game to these great fans!”

The NBA announced Friday that the Mavs will take on the Detroit Pistons at Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City on Dec. 12. Additionally, the San Antonio Spurs will take on the Phoenix Suns on Dec. 14.

Dallas previously participated in a game in Mexico City in 2017.

“NBA games in Mexico City are a core part of our efforts to reach and engage basketball fans throughout Mexico and Latin America," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said. "With a record four NBA teams visiting Mexico City next season, we expect an unprecedented level of interest and excitement around these games and our surrounding community events.”

The Mavericks roster currently includes Slovenian Luka Doncic and Austrailian Ryan Broekoff. Several of the Mavs'international players are free agents this offseason but are expected to return. Those players include Kristaps Porzingis (restricted free agent/Latvia), J.J. Barea (Puerto Rico), Maxi Kleber (Germany), and Salah Mejri (Tunisia).

Recently retired Dirk Nowitzki, the most popular player in franchise history, is a native of Germany. But he's now attempting to become a U.S. citizen, as well. (Link to Dirk U.S. Story)
