DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin doesn't see Dez Bryant returning to play for America's team this upcoming season, but it has nothing to do with his ability.
Irvin was asked during an appearance Monday morning on 105.3 The Fan if the Cowboys drafting CeeDee Lamb, combined with the announcement that he'll wear Bryant's no. 88, spells the end of the possibility for a reunion between the two?
"I know that must of hit Dez in the gut, in a hard way. You know how much he loves the Cowboys and everything," Irvin said on Shan and RJ. I didn't think there was a real chance of the Cowboys signing Dez, but you kept hearing things, so I was real hopeful of that possibility. I think this certainly damages it now because, even coming in, where are you going to have Dez at? At the third spot at receiver? And really that means you're the fourth option because you stick in Blake Jarwin. ... Now (after the Cowboys drafted Lamb) he's down to the fifth option if he comes, and usually when you get that deep into it you got to become a special teams player and Dez certainly didn't do much of that."
Despite the Cowboys appearing to not have a place on their roster for Bryant, Irvin believes he still has something left in the tank.
"I'm still shocked that Dez hasn't had more opportunities to play than what we're talking about, so I don't know what went on with that."
