DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - New Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy joined Shan and RJ this morning for the first of many appearances on 105.3 The Fan.
Here are some of the highlights:
Will you be calling the plays?
"We're looking at everything. I love calling plays. Every decision that will be made will be in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys."
What was the biggest surprise he found in his year of studying?
"I used to say statistics are for losers because the only statistic that mattered is wins and losses. I think you have to be smart about the analytics," McCarthy said. "I think analytics gives you the ability to sharpen your edge in preparation, and anticipate those decisions at a higher level and give you the ability to be a little quicker with your decision making during the game."
What kind of coach are you - a players' coach or a disciplinarian - or is there a balance?
"I'm not really sure what the definition of a players' coach is because sometimes you think it's a compliment and sometimes you don't know if it's a compliment. I've always coached the same way, whether as a quarterback coach, an offensive coordinator, or as a head coach. I think it's really important to be direct and honest, especially with your football team. You can't have blurred lines"
