DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Texas Rangers dreams of signing Nolan Arenado to be their third baseman of the future are over after the star agreed to a contract extension with the Colorado Rockies, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Per Passan, Arenado and the Rockies are finalizing an 8-year extension worth $255 million. The deal, which includes an opt-out after three years, gives Arenado the largest per-year salary of any position player in MLB history.
With the Rangers set to enter a new stadium next season (Globe Life Field), several reports had come out that club ownership would open their wallet to pay the slugger and defensive stalwart to be their next face of the franchise.
105.3 The Fan's Rangers insider, Jared Sandler, says he expects Jon Daniels and his staff to remain aggressive in free agency the next two offseasons.
