The decision, which came late Wednesday afternoon, could not have come at a better time for both the Chargers and for fantasy football owners alike, as Gordon has missed the first three games of the season for Los Angeles, with the Chargers going 1-2 over that stretch.
Since entering the NFL in 2015, Gordon is seventh among active running backs in rushing yards with 3,628 yards and fourth in rushing touchdowns since 2016 with 28 scores.
Gordon has been in the midst of a holdout for a contract extension, much like Cowboys running Ezekiel Elliott had been, since the beginning of the offseason, though the Chargers now have seemingly gained the upper hand in those negotiations.
With Gordon not active for the team's road trip to Miami this Sunday, the former 15th overall pick's first taste of action in 2019 will likely come the following weekend at home against the division rival Denver Broncos on October 6th.
The Broncos rank 16th in the NFL in rush defense through the early part of 2019 and have given up the second-most rushing touchdowns in the league to this point.
