According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Mavericks will send Golden State the 2020 second-round pick they received from the Utah Jazz in exchange for the big man. That pick is currently slated to be the No. 55 pick in the draft.
The 26-year-old is averaging 7.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 41 games this season with Golden State. For his career, the seven-footer averages 9.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Cauley-Stein is earning $2.17 million this season and has a player option for 2020 worth $2.28 million.
The Mavericks made a trade earlier Friday when they sent Isaiah Roby to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for oft-injured center Justin Patton, according to multiple reports. That trade, according to those reports, was designed to give the Mavericks a roster spot, which now appears set for the addition of Cauley-Stein.
