DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Texas Rangers, who are looking for ways to upgrade their offense this offseason, have met with free agent outfielder, Nicholas Castellanos, according to Jon Morosi of the MLB Network.

Morosi reports that the Rangers had "a good meeting" with the 27-year-old right-handed hitter and are among the finalists to sign him.

"Sources say Castellanos came away from the meeting with a favorable impression of the Rangers, who begin play at Globe Life Field this year and have added starting pitchers Corey Kluber, Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles since the offseason began," Morosi added

The Rangers have been connected to Castellanos after they came up empty in their pursuit of now Los Angeles Angels third baseman, Anthony Rendon. Club general manager Jon Daniels has made it known that they would like to add a right-handed bat to the middle of the order this winter.

"There's a lot of different ways to do it. ... We're still looking at third base both through trade and free agency. ... We need to add offense, overall," Daniels said on MLB Network on Dec. 16.
Castellanos, who turns 28 in March, has spent the majority of his time in right field over the last three seasons. However, he may shift over to first base if he were to sign with Texas, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reported last month

Castellanos would be an intriguing addition. Not only for his bat but also because he won't cost the club a top draft pick should they sign him. He hit .289 with 27 home runs and 73 RBI in 2019 between the Chicago White Sox and Cubs. He really turned it on after moving to the North Side, hitting 16 home runs in 51 games while posting a 1.002 OPS over the last two months of the season.

And what about third base? Morosi reports the Rangers could bring in a veteran third baseman, such as Todd Frazier, on a short-term deal.
