DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden has been fired, according to reports.

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden was fired early Monday morning, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

The team released a statement early Monday saying Gruden had been, "relieved of his duties with the team."

Gruden was informed early in the morning by team owner Daniel Snyder and President Bruce Allen.

"The team has clearly not performed up to expectations, and we all share in that responsibility,” the Redskins front office said in a statement."Moving forward we are committed to doing all that we can collectively as an organization to turn things around and give our Redskins fans and alumni a team they can be proud of in 2019 and beyond"

The team has called for a 1:00pm press conference to officially discuss the matter.
