DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Texas Rangers have optioned struggling first baseman Ronald Guzman to Triple-A Nashville to make room on the roster for right-hander Pedro Payano, the club announced Tuesday.

Guzman is hitting just .193 to go along with 8 home runs and 29 RBI in 197 at-bats. He's also started in just two of the club's last six games.

Rangers general manager spoke about Guzman's struggles during his weekly segment with the Ben and Skin Show on Monday.

"We've given him a run here. He's been very good defensively. He's a clear plus over there. I think he's helped our pitching staff and our defense. He's struggled pretty badly over the last few weeks offensively. He's working on some things. There's not an unlimited period of time but right now we're still giving him a chance to work through that," Daniels said.

Payano will be pitching as the "starter" behind opener Brett Martin in tonight's game against the Seattle Mariners.
