Stephen Jones: Interest In Drafting A QB Has Nothing To Do With Dak Prescott's Contract

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones joined the K&C Masterpiece on Friday for the second of his three scheduled interviews ahead of the NFL draft next week.

Jones wasn't asked specifically about the status of quarterback Dak Prescott's contract negotiations, but he was asked about one of the players the team had interviewed in the pre-draft process - Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts

"I don't think it has anything to do with Dak's contract in terms of our interest in a quarterback," Stephen Jones said. "Mike (McCarthy) was up in Green Bay where they continually drafted quarterbacks. We're always looking to get better. Obviously, we have Cooper Rush around here going into his fourth season. He'll be free next year. You know, we're always looking to have a good backup situation, especially if it's a young player who can develop. All of a sudden, you have a serious resource if you're able to develop a good young quarterback. But I think you're going down the wrong path when you equate it to Dak's contract situation."

The Cowboys media team created a stir when they released a clip of an interview with Hurts on social media. Since then, they've released serveral clips of interviews with players such as TCU and Clemson wideouts Jalen Reagor and Tee Higgins.

Jones also discussed the team's draft position, including their depth at the linebacker position, and the scheme that new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan could implement next season
