FORT WORTH (105.3 THE FAN) - TCU's big win over Texas last weekend comes at a steep price for the school.
After TCU beat Texas 37-27 last Saturday afternoon, many Horned Frog fans stormed the field afterwards.
For that, the Big 12 Conference fined the school $25,000.
"Although the Big 12 does not currently have a policy prohibiting spectators from entering playing areas for post-game celebrations, it is of utmost importance that home game management provide adequate security measures for our student-athletes, coaches, game officials and spectators," Commissioner Bob Bowlsby says in a statement posted to the conference's website. "That expectation includes providing safe passage from the playing field to the locker room, and protection of the visiting team bench area."
"While Saturday was certainly an exciting day for our students and fans, we understand and appreciate the Big 12 Conference's sportsmanship policy and acknowledge that we fell short of that standard following the game," TCU Athletic Director Jeremiah Donati said in a statement reacting to the fine and sanction.
TCU was not the only program drawing the ire of the Big 12 last Saturday.
The conference also publicly reprimanded Kansas and Kansas State for their respective field-storming incidents last Saturday, levying a $25,000 fine against K-State in the process.
