DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - You can scratch one name off of the Cowboys list of perceived head coaching candidates as the Minnesota Vikings have announced that they plan on retaining Mike Zimmer beyond this season.
Owner Mark Wilf released a statement to the NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Friday after rumors have ramped up recently on the potential ouster of Zimmer.
"We value Mike and Rick's leadership and we have every intent of Mike continuing as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings and Rick leading our football operations, next year and beyond," Wilf said of Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman.
Speculation has arisen this week that Zimmer could be out as the Vikings head coach if they were to lose to the New Orleans Saints this weekend. Zimmer has a career playoff record of 1-2 and a .599 career winning percentage since becoming Minnesota's head coach in 2014.
The Cowboys, of course, still don't have a head coaching vacancy to offer any prospective coach as they've yet to make an official decision on Jason Garrett's future.
