"I can confirm that it's absolutely not correct. We have not met with any coach" said Jones when asked about a report that Stephen Jones has met with former Ohio State University coach Urban Meyer about a possible coaching position with Dallas.

"We all know we want to keep it interesting" said Jones.

When asked about his decision to be the General Manager of the team, Jones explained why he continues to hold on to the position.

Jones says he retains the position, because "When you can cut out the person between the decision maker and the people recommending," better and quicker decisions are made.

"Not when Jimmy (Johnson) was here. Not when Troy (Aikman) was here. Nobody ever has had the final say (on all personnel moves) but me. You know I really don't like to say that. But that's a fact" said Jones.

Jones said that NFL level GM's come and go as much as coaches. "The guy who ultimately has the responsibility of paying the bills makes the decisions."

The Dallas Cowboys finally decided to cut kicker Brett Maher on Monday. Maher was 20 for 30 on field goals this season after going 1 of 2 Thursday vs Chicago. The 10 misses are more than any other NFL kicker has had in a season the past four years.

"We tried kickers out after the Buffalo game" said Jones, and they decided to stick with the kicker (Maher) they had, until yesterday. "We didn't think the kickers we were looking at would do a better job."
