DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Free agent safety Earl Thomas is asking for at least $14 million per year on the open market, according to NFL Network reporter Jane Slater.

I said "rumored to be" but can now confirm, at least in the market of 14M or more a year, per source. He wants to beat S Eric Berry's number which is roughly 13M a year https://t.co/uj7ntUHI7L

On Twitter Monday, the first day teams can legally negotiate with free agents, Slater reported that Thomas wants to beat Eric Berry's contract number which pays the Chiefs safety an average of $13 million per year. Berry signed for $78 million over six years with $40 million of it being guaranteed in 2017.

In her report earlier this morning on the NFL Network, Slater said Thomas was rumored to want a two-year, $30 million deal.

The plugged-in @SlaterNFL has been very precise with her #EarlThomas reporting. I will say that the $15M APY qualifies as a 'rumor.' ... But that surely the #Cowboys long-shot target wishes to be 'highest-paid.'

For his part, 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher is reporting that a Thomas and Cowboys pairing is a long shot at this point, unless Thomas is unable to get a contract that pays him what he wants. Fish agrees the Cowboys would want the former Longhorn for two years but not at that price.

Sure. Long shot. But both #Cowboys and Earl share a dream ... if not an agreement on value due to age, etc. https://t.co/E7qJiMzRDT
