DALLAS (KRLD 1080)-  Its news Cowboys fans did not want to hear.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott, seeking a new contract, failed to report to the team's training camp in Oxnard.

Team owner Jerry Jones said that Elliott was officially late.

"We expect everybody that's under contract to be here at camp," he said.

Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said that he is in discussions with Elliott's agent on a new contract.

"We feel optimistic that things usually work themselves out," Stephen Jones said. "We've been doing this for 30 years, so we're not surprised. It's a business."

Elliott, 24, has two years remaining on his rookie deal, which will pay him over $3 million this year. But he'd like to be paid more than $10 million a season.

The Cowboys have said they plan on signing Elliott to an extension, but indicated that new deals for quarterback Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper took precedence because they are heading into the final year of their deals.
