SportsRadio 610 -- Alex Bregman is going on the 10-day injured list and will head back to Houston on Thursday afternoon for an MRI on his strained hamstring.
Bregman suffered the in the Astros’ 13-6 win over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.
Bregman doubled to left field to lead off the fourth inning, reaching base safely for the 40th consecutive game, which is the longest active on-base streak in Major League Baseball dating back to Sept. 11, 2019.
But the Astros’ star third baseman started to favor his right leg on his way to first base,e and he limped into second.
Abraham Toro entered the game to run for Bregman.
Manager Dusty Baker said Carlos Correa, who's also been hitting the well this season, will bat third in place of Bregman.
This is the same hamstring Bregman’s pulled before, and he expressed his disappointment after the game, saying he was “starting to feel pretty damn good.”
“It’s just disappointing because I put so much work into this offseason and this quarantine period on specifically my hamstring,” Bregman said. “So it’s frustrating.”
Bregman has been one of the Astros’ most reliable hitters this season. In addition to reaching base in all 24 games this season, Bregman has four home runs and 14 RBI.
The Astros will call up pitcher Cionel Perez with Bregman going on the injured list.
Injuries have piled up on the Astros in recent days.
They learned designated hitter Yordan Alvarez will miss the rest of the season with a torn petellar tendon in his right knee, which will require surgery next week.
Outfielder Michael Brantley is expected to return to the Astros' lineup this weekend in San Diego, but likely in a DH role, after suffering from quadriceps soreness and going on the injured list.
The Astros are also without ace Justin Verlander (forearm strain), closer Roberto Osuna (elbow soreness) and assumed starter Jose Urquidy is still working out at the team's alternate site in Corpus Christi after missing summer camp.
