HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- Astros outfielder-designated hitter Yordan Alvarez underwent arthroscopic surgery on both knees on Wednesday in Houston, the team said Friday in a statement.
A slight tear of the patellar tendon in Alvarez' right knee was repaired, and a routine cleanup was performed on his left knee, the team statement said.
Alvarez, the AL Rookie of the Year in 2019, begins physical therapy immediately and is expected to make a full recovery. While Alvarez will miss the remainder of the 2020 season, he is expected to be ready to play by spring training, according to the team.
Alvarez played in two games in 2020 (Aug. 14-15), homering toward the opposite field in his first at-bat.
