The Major League Baseball hot stove season is now underway as six players were extended the $18.9 million qualifying offer ahead of Sunday’s 5 p.m. ET deadline.
Those who received an offer were:
• Trevor Bauer, Cincinnati Reds RHP
• Kevin Gausman, San Francisco Giants RHP
• DJ LeMahieu, New York Yankees 2B
• J.T. Realmuto, Philadelphia Phillies C
• George Springer, Houston Astros OF
• Marcus Stroman, New York Mets RHP
Players have 10 days to accept or decline the qualifying offer, during which they can negotiate with other teams. If a player does not accept the offer, they will be eligible to become a free agent.
Should any of the aforementioned players sign with another team in free agency, their previous team will receive draft pick compensation. The compensation varies for each team and how much they sign for.
Notable players who were not extended qualifying offers include Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius, Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka and Astros outfielder Michael Brantley.
