The NBA was at the forefront of fighting for justice for Jacob Blake over the summer – shutting the league down for three days as teams refused to play out of protest.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Blake’s shooter would not be charged and the basketball world responded again on Wednesday.
During the Milwaukee Bucks-Detroit Pistons game, instead of taking a knee during the national anthem, all players on the court, including coaches, took a knee immediately after tipoff.
The Bucks won the tip but let the ball roll out of bounds to complete the gesture.
The Bucks have particularly been affected by the Blake shooting, which occurred in Kenosha, Wisc. – about 40 miles south of Milwaukee. They were the first team to refuse to take the floor back in August.
Others around the league also showed their support for Blake and the Black Lives Matter movement. The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat each left the court before tip-off but returned to play after releasing a joint statement about the Blake decision, as well as the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol earlier on Wednesday.
The Suns and Raptors also locked arms around the center of the court during the U.S. and Canadian national anthems.
Others around the league, such as 76ers head coach Doc Rivers, spoke at length about the racial double standard in the country.
