Gavin Dawson believes the Tennessee Titans should forfeit games if they were found to have broken COVID protocols put in place by the NFL.
"You have so much COVID going on right now. I wondered if the NFL would consider a temporary suspension to let things calm down and cool off. And to reassert the need to be completely in line with protocols. The coaches are breaking it. The players are breaking the hell out of it postgame. ... Now, during the week, during the middle of a COVID crisis the players went rogue. That's a big deal. But, the biggest noise is what do you do do with the Titans? I think you're looking at forfeits. We'll try to reschedule but not with this nonsense. You guys are docked. Check it out, you're 3-2, (the) Steelers schedule goes back to normal. And Titans we'll see if you can play in Week 6. That's how I'd handle this."
Two more Titans tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday despite shutting everything down on Sept. 29, and there now appears to be an explanation why.
According to NFL reporter Paul Kuharsky, a group of Titans players, which included quarterback Ryan Tannehill, held a private workout together on Sept. 30 at a prep school in Nashville.
The workout is a direct violation of NFL protocols.
The day prior, the Titans shut down their team facility and the franchise was told "no in-person meetings, workouts or activities at the facility or elsewhere."
The NFL is still investigating the origins of how COVID-19 has spread through the Titans organization, which is now up to 22 cases.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell warned teams on Monday that violations of COVID-19 protocols could result in forfeiture of games and/or draft picks. ESPN reported earlier on Wednesday that the Titans may be forced to forfeit their Week 5 game against the Bills.
The Titans must produce back-to-back days of negative tests before they can return to their facilities.
