105.3 The Fan's Cowboys radio analyst and former Cowboys quarterback Babe Laufenberg is answering questions every week this preseason to help get you ready for the upcoming season.
Here are the questions Babe answered this week:
Question 1: There is so much chatter about Dak. As a former QB, do you hear that noise and does it get old?
It certainly gets old, but as they say, it comes with the dinner. The chatter will continue until Dak takes his team on a deep playoff run. Matthew Stafford heard the chatter for 12 years in Detroit, won a Super Bowl in his first year with the Rams, and that chatter was muted. You would be surprised how little quarterbacks actually hear. Dak will be so immersed in getting himself physically and mentally prepared each week for that week's game, that he will not be looking at social media or any form of media for that matter.
Question 2: Who were some standouts in the first preseason game?
The obvious one was Deuce Vaughn. I said on the broadcast that it is hard to be a little man in a big man's game- you have to be an exceptional athlete- but that is what Deuce Vaughn is. I always say, "don't overlook productivity" and Vaughn was one of the most productive backs in college football, leading the FBS with 1,936 all-purpose yards in 2022. He will be productive as a pro. On the other side of the ball, DeMarvion Overshown certainly impressed. He is the perfect hybrid athlete for today's NFL defense, and especially Dan Quinn's defense, having played both safety and linebacker in college.
Question 3: What do you think about Mike McCarthy's decision to not practice against another team?
I always think it is beneficial to practice against another team, especially for the receivers and secondary. Different teams play different coverages and techniques, and I think it is great when the people involved in your passing game see different looks. Plus, the competitive juices get flowing, and while not quite a game atmosphere, it is an excellent way to ramp up the pressure for your younger players.
