DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys elected to move on from several players Friday, notably kicker Greg Zuerlein and tight end Blake Jarwin.

Among the other players released were 2020 fourth rounder Reggie Robinson, Ito Smith and Robert Foster.

After making these moves, Dallas will get almost $9 million in savings and are now under the league's $208.2 million salary cap, according to 105.3 The Fan's Bobby Belt.

Zuerlein was entering the final year of a three-year, $7.5 million deal he signed with Dallas in 2020. The Cowboys saved about $2.5 million by releasing him.

The 10-year veteran kicker missed six of 35 field-goal attempts and six of 48 extra-point tries in 2021. His 82.9 field goal percentage is fourth-worst among kickers who have attempted at least 30 kicks, and his 87.5 extra point percentage was last among all kickers this season.

As for Jarwin, he underwent hip surgery at the end of February, and his chances of being ready for the start of the 2022 season are in doubt. The Cowboys could elect to bring him back on a cheaper deal, but it made sense for them to pull the plug now and save $3.8 million off the books.

Jarwin signed a three-year, $24.25 million extension after posting 31 catches for 365 yards and three touchdowns in 2020. He played in all 16 games in his first two seasons but only appeared in nine games over the past two years due to a torn ACL in 2020 and hip pain in 2021.
