DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys rookie wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has done nothing but impress thus far in his first Cowboys training camp, and that comes at no surprise to those involved in his selection this April.
Before camp began, the majority of experts would have agreed that Lamb was poised to make an impact in the passing game, if nothing else, due to sheer talent and skill alone.
"I think he's exceeded all expectations, he's got rare football IQ," Jones said. "It just comes so natural to him. Whether it's his route running and his feel for the game, whether it's catching the ball, whether it's his ability to accelerate after the catch, everything just seems to click with him. I know certainly his teammates have enjoyed him, he's super super competitive, he works super hard, and i just can't say enough nice things about him."
What most wouldn't have expected heading into the new season, however, was the Cowboys planning to utilize Lamb in the return game. But according to Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, who joined 105.3 The Fan's GBag Nation on Thursday afternoon, that is more than just a possibility.
"We're so fortunate that he ended up being there for us," Jones Continued. " I think he's going to make a big big difference in our offensive football team, and for that matter even special teams. It's not going to surprise me to see him back there potentially helping in the return game as well."
Lamb was obviously not draft for his return potential, though he was quite effective in that aspect of the game during his time at Oklahoma, returning 54 punts for 475 yards over his three seasons, with an average of 8.8 yards per return. Lamb did not score a touchdown in punt return game however, and did not return any kickoffs during his college career.
Lamb will get his first chance to show what he can do on special teams when the Cowboys travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams for their season opener on September September 13.
