Dallas Cowboys

Could Cowboys play both Cooper Rush and Trey Lance vs. Eagles?

The Dallas Cowboys are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday, but they are going to have to do it shorthanded.

Last week vs. the Atlanta Falcons, starting quarterback Dak Prescott went down with a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for multiple weeks.

In replacement of Prescott, most expect Dallas to go with veteran backup Cooper Rush, who has plenty of experience filling in for Prescott in the long term. Head coach Mike McCarthy also indicated that Rush would get the start on Monday.

However, according to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, there could be a chance that Dallas plays both Rush and third string QB Trey Lance on Sunday.

"Let's not dismiss the possibility of doing anything," Jones told Shan and RJ. "The 'going with' has a past tense aspect to it that I wouldn't recognize. It's not impossible to incorporate some of the skills that we might get from both quarterbacks."

Of course, even if both quarterbacks play, Rush is still likely to get the start and play the majority of the game.

That said, it appears that the Cowboys are considering deploying Lance in certain situations that would utilize his athleticism and his legs.

"There are things we can do with him that I think can add punch to the offense," Jones said.

Lance showed a bit of that running ability this preseason, rushing 24 times for 168 yards and two scores. He also completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 662 yards and two touchdowns.

Whatever the case, it appears that Dallas isn't afraid to get creative on offense in the absence of Prescott.

And with the offense sputtering through the first half of the season, that can only be a good thing.
