Cowboys activate WR Amari Cooper from PUP list

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys got some good news on the injury front Tuesday morning when wide receiver Amari Cooper was activated off of the physically unable to perform list.

The team announced that Cooper has passed his physical and is now eligible to start practicing. However, it's not known if he'll begin practicing immediately or if the Cowboys will continue to take a cautious approach with his ankle.

This news is quite a reversal from the message Cooper gave during his appearance with the K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The Fan over the weekend. In that visit, he was asked when we might see him back on the practice field, to which he replied, "a couple weeks."

Earlier this week, Cooper proclaimed himself “close to 100-percent” healthy and suggested he is about ready to move off the PUP list, which he now has.

The interview with 105.3 The Fan didn't do anything to calm fears of his impending return. However, it's conceivable that nothing has changed here and that Cooper simply was ready to be activated, and the Cowboys were planning all along to ease their No. 1 wideout back into the fold over the next couple of weeks.

Cooper had an arthroscopic ankle procedure in January and hasn't practiced since. The 27-year-old is often a bit dinged up, or worse. Of course, then comes Sunday. And anybody in the Cowboys family, from team executive to fan, knows what happens then: Since being traded in 2018 by the Raiders to Dallas, Cooper has 224 catches and 3,028 yards in 41 career games for the Cowboys. He's totaled 1,000 or more yards in five of his six seasons. And even last year, Cooper, managed to finish with 92 catches for 1,114 yards while his QB Dak Prescott, himself out in Week 5, was an observer.
