Cowboys and Mike McCarthy expected to 'open talks' on extension
The contract talks between the Dallas Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy have been one of the stories of the NFL over the past couple of weeks.
But now, it appears there could be a resolution coming soon.
According to reports from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys and McCarthy are open to staying together, and are set to begin talks about an extension on Friday.
"After several days of discussions about the 2024 season and the future, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and coach Mike McCarthy remain open to moving forward together and the sides are expected to open talks today on a new contract to keep him in Dallas," Pelissero said on X.
The Cowboys have yet to negotiate with McCarthy, who is in the final year of his contract, but have denied other franchises requests for an interview with the head coach.
Dallas will have until January 14th to come to a resolution with McCarthy, at which time he will be free to interview with whichever team he wants.
