Inside the Star: Cowboys more likely to bring back Mike McCarthy?

The speculation about Mike McCarthy's future as the coach of the Cowboys will continue until Jerry Jones makes an official statement (or leaks his decision to the press). But we may have gotten a hint about how this will all play out.

David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, who has broken numerous Cowboys stories over his long tenure covering the team, posted a column Tuesday evening. In it, he laid out that he believes Prescott and McCarthy will return next season.

"A strong argument can be made that it’s in the Cowboys’ best interest to give these two one more year together before moving on. That starts by letting McCarthy know he’ll be back for a fifth season before the week is done."

McCarthy has only one year remaining on his contract and is set to return as a lame-duck head coach should Jones not fire or extend him. Coincidentally, quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his deal next season. That deal, of course, is much more burdensome because it carries a nearly $60 million cap hit if Jones doesn't give him a new contract.

Shan, RJ and Bobby discussed Moore's report on Wednesday's show.
