Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs activated off PUP list, will return to practice

The Dallas Cowboys are set to welcome back one of their top players just in time for training camp.

Per an announcement from head coach Mike McCarthy, star Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has been activated from the PUP list, and will return to the practice field on Tuesday. Diggs will be limited to work off to the side and won't be incorporated into the team's padded practices just yet.

Diggs of course, is coming off of a season ending ACL tear that he suffered in Week 2 vs. the New York Jets last September.

This is obviously welcome news for the Cowboys, who will now be able to field each of their top two corners in Diggs and Daron Bland for the season opener.

And McCarthy couldn't be more excited about his return.

“He's such a playmaker," McCarthy said Tuesday. "Obviously, his ability to go get the football, get his hands on a football, challenge the receiver, the matchups all that.”

In his two games before the injury, Diggs had four tackles and already had one interception to his name.

Since 2021, he has come away with a team-high 15 interceptions - one more than his fellow corner on the opposite side in Bland.

As for how the Cowboys will work Diggs back into practice, McCarthy cautions patience.

"Smartly," McCarthy said. "Biggest thing is to get him to stay on his rehab program with Brit (Brown) but get him into the jog-throughs and the teaching drills is the first step. We'll see how we progress him to the individual (drills)."

The Cowboys will open the season vs. the Browns in Cleveland on September 8.
