DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys added another quarterback to the mix on Tuesday morning, when they claimed former Carolina Panthers backup QB Will Grier off of waivers, according to multiple reports.
Grier will join and likely compete with current Cowboys backup Cooper Rush, in the hopes of earning the job behind starter Dak Prescott.
Grier played his redshirt freshman season at Florida under current Cowboys quarterback coach Doug Nussmeier, who was the offensive coordinator at Florida at the time.
That season, Grier was on fire through his first six games with Nussmeier calling plays, completing 105-of-160 (65.5-percent) passes for 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns, with just three interceptions.
"I really like how Nussmeier is very hands-on," Grier said of Nussmeier while at Florida. "He does a really good job when we watch film and watch practice. He knows what he's doing. He's done it.
"I feel really comfortable with being a sponge as much as I can with him."
Grier was then suspended by the Gators after testing positive for PED's, prompting his transfer to West Virginia.
With the Moutaineers, Grier was prolific, throwing for 7,354 yards and 71 touchdowns in his two seasons.
Grier was eventually taken in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Panthers, where he has since started two games.
Grier was 0-2 in those two games, throwing for 228 yards and zero touchdowns with four interceptions.
