Cowboys DE Aldon Smith Gets First Sack Since 2015

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys defensive end Aldon Smith was one of the lone bright spots in the team's season-opening loss to the Rams on Sunday night.

Smith, who was all over the field making plays, came up with his first sack since Nov. 11, 2015.

Smith took down Rams quarterback Jared Goff in the fourth quarter, giving him 48.5 sacks for his career.

"I was able to make some plays, but I also missed some plays," Smith said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. "I'm tough on myself, but I did some things well, I did some things that I can get better at."

Smith signed a one-year, $4 million contract with Dallas in April.

Smith last played in 2015 for Oakland, where he had 3.5 sacks in nine games, as well as 28 total tackles and eight quarterback hits.

After being drafted seventh overall in the 2011 draft out of Missouri by the San Francisco 49ers, Smith was an All-Pro in 2012, finishing with 66 total tackles, 19.5 sacks, 18 tackles for loss and 29 quarterback hits.

From 2011-2013, he had 42.5 sacks and 74 total quarterback hits.
