DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys approached DeMarcus Lawrence's representation about taking a pay cut this offseason but the pass rusher declined, 105.3 The Fan's Bobby Belt reported Sunday.

Multiple sources have told 105.3 The Fan in recent weeks that Lawrence, along with receiver Amari Cooper, are potential salary-cap casualties this offseason. The Cowboys were expected to broach the idea of a pay cut with Lawrence's representatives at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, which ended Saturday, and the expectation was that his reps would turn down the organization's request.

It remains to be seen where the Cowboys will go from here with the 29-year-old but his chances of sticking in Dallas are in doubt.

The Cowboys are currently projected to be $21 million over the salary cap according to OverTheCap.com, and there are considerable savings to be had by releasing both Lawrence and Cooper.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday that Dallas is "likely" to move on from Cooper before the new league year begins on May 16, four days before he's due to earn $20 million in fully guaranteed money for the 2022 season. Dallas will save $16 million off the cap by releasing him prior to June 1.

Lawrence is set to earn $19 million in 2022. Dallas will save $8 million by releasing him before June 1 and $19 million after June 1.
