Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday's 33-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones.
"He's got a high ankle [sprain]," Jones said on The K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The Fan on Monday. "We don't think that it's gonna be a severe one. He's gonna be getting further looked at in terms of exactly what we're dealing with here. We'll know more as the day goes by."
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was asked for a status update on Hankins at his press conference on Monday afternoon but he didn't provide an injury timeline.
According to multiple sources within the organization, the expectation is that Hankins will miss the team's next two games - at Buffalo and Miami - Bryan Broaddus reported Monday on the GBag Nation on 105.3 The Fan.
"From talking to some folks over there, they are looking at a couple of games right now for Hankins," Broaddus said.
Hankins was injured in the third quarter after his ankle was rolled up on during a run by D'Andre Swift. He remained down on the field for a couple of minutes before walking gingerly to the sideline with assistance from the Cowboys' training staff. He was eventually carted off and never returned.
Hankins has appeared in all 13 games this season, totaling 26 tackles and three sacks.
Dallas will turn to rookie Mazi Smith and Neville Gallimore should Hankins be forced to miss time. The Cowboys also have veteran Carl Davis Jr. available for elevation on the practice squad.
