DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy hasn't had an opportunity to provide very much good news to fans during his team's injury-riddled season. But he was able to on Thursday.
McCarthy said running back Ezekiel Elliott's hamstring injury and defensive end Aldon Smith's knee injury aren't considered serious. The Cowboys star running back was listed on the injury report for the first time this season on Wednesday. McCarthy said that the plan is for Elliott to remain limited in Thursday's practice.
Elliott has struggled to get going on the ground this season. However, a lot of those struggles can be attributed to the team's injuries on their offensive line and to their top-two quarterbacks.
Elliott is averaging four yards per carry this season and has 521 yard rushing and five touchdowns.
Smith was also listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday. McCarthy announced that the plan is for the pass rusher to remain limited in Thursday's practice.
Both Elliott and Smith are expected to play Sunday vs Pittsburgh.
