Cowboys officially place Dak Prescott on injured reserve
The Dallas Cowboys have officially placed star quarterback Dak Prescott on injured reserve ahead of their Monday Night Football matchup vs. the Houston Texans, ending his season, the team announced.
In a corresponding move, the Cowboys signed defensive back Josh Butler from the practice squad, and elevated tight end Princeton Fant and defensive back Kemon Hall.
The decision comes after Prescott had missed the last week's game vs. the Eagles with a hamstring injury.
Prescott's injury occurred in the fourth quarter of the Cowboys loss to Atlanta.
Cowboys COO Stephen Jones had hinted that Prescott was likely bound for IR last week on GBag Nation, stating that it would be unrealistic for the QB to return in the four-week time frame.
"It's probably no way he back in the four-week timeframe, so we'll put him (on IR) and we'll have that roster spot to use in terms of the next four weeks and go from there," Jones told GBag Nation. "Obviously a tough, tough situation, losing him period of time, but we're going to do what's in the best interest of Dak and right now I don't think anyone knows whether four weeks, six weeks or the season. We'll just have to continue to monitor that and see where it takes us."
It was then reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter that Prescott was likely to undergo season-ending surgery to repair the injury.
In replacement of Prescott, Dallas has turned to veteran backup Cooper Rush, who got the start vs. Philadelphia in a 34-6 loss.
Before the injury, Prescott was completing 64.7 percent of his passes for 1,978 yards and 11 touchdowns with eight interceptions.
