DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys will place several players on the physically unable to perform list just a short time before they are set to take the field in Oxnard for their first practice of the 2021 season.

Dallas will place Amari Cooper (ankle), DeMarcus Lawrence (back), Trysten Hill (knee), Greg Zuerlein (back), Chauncey Golston (hamstring) and Mitch Hyatt (knee) on the PUP list, coach Mike McCarthy announced Thursday.

"I don't have any long-term concerns (with any of the injuries)," McCarthy said. He added that Hill is probably the furthest away in his rehab.

As for Lawrence, McCarthy said the defensive end underwent his third offseason back surgery since 2016, but he's optimistic about his recovery, calling it "a cleanup."

105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher has reported on Cooper's expected absence at the start of camp, saying it "is not a crisis" as he continues to recover from offseason foot surgery.

A source told Fish just two weeks ago that they are unconcerned about "any long-term issues with Cooper's foot and he was expected to "cut it close" to being able to practice on Day 1 of camp.

Coach McCarthy agreed with that sentiment Thursday.

"I'm not concerned. … When you see him, he's in great shape. Better than he was even last year," McCarthy said of Cooper.

Cooper dealt with that foot injury all season. But despite that, started all 16 games, leading the Cowboys with 92 catches for 1,114 yards and five scores.
