DALLAS (105.3) - According to a report from Jason La Conforna of CBS Sports, the Dallas Cowboys are prepared to place the franchise tag on star quarterback Dak Prescott once again next season.
While this may seem like news to outside eyes, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys have made it clear since the injury that Prescott is the future of their franchise at the quarterback position, and that they have no intentions on moving on from him.
Whether it comes from a franchise tag or a long term extension, the plan was always for Dak Prescott to return to the Cowboys in 2021, assuming he is healthy enough to do so.
Should the Cowboys and Prescott fail to come to an agreement on an extension this offseason, Prescott would be due to make around $38 million on the franchise tag.
Prescott was lost for the season in week five against the New York Giants, when he suffered a gruesome ankle injury in the Cowboys' win. Prescott underwent successful surgery at a local area hospital following the injury.
Prescott is expected to make a full recovery.
