Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott may require season-ending surgery after an MRI determined that he suffered a partial avulsion of his right hamstring tendon, Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Prescott is seeking other opinions to determine if surgery is necessary "for the portion of the tendon that has torn from the bone or if it can heal on its own." Prescott would miss the rest of the season if he had the procedure.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan that the team will 'likely' place Prescott on injured reserve. However, Dallas has been reluctant to do so while Prescott seeks other opinions because the quarterback would miss the next four games if he lands on IR.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that no decision has been made on which course of action they'll take.
Prescott told the media that he suffered the injury on a scramble in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
